This year, we spent more time inside our homes than ever before. We are eating more meals at our dining tables, working out of our spare bedrooms and spending a lot more time sitting on the sofa. Your home should be a place of comfort now more than ever, but it might feel like a daunting task to even get started. We are here to help you get started with a few interior design goals to elevate your home in 2021.
1. It's Time for a Home Office
You've probably already fashioned a workplace somewhere in your home, but maybe it isn't quite as inspiring as you'd like. If you still don't have a home office setup, it's time to create a space where you can be productive and happy while you work. Start by considering what your work habits are; do you prefer having a view out the window or do you like to be facing a wall where you are free of distractions? Do like to have a warm cup of coffee or tea on hand throughout the day? Have you been putting off buying a file organizer? Find a few things that make working from home enjoyable like this or this. And don't forget to add a bit of decor!
2. Bring the Outside In
There is a lot to be missed in our temporary normal. Freshen up your space by giving it a little life! Add some new plants throughout the house to get a touch of the outdoors from the comfort of your home. If you don't have a green thumb, try using fake plants instead. We use synthetic plants in our staging and they are just as effective for brightening up a home.
3. Make it a Staycation
You might not have been able to travel this year and if you're missing it like we are, bring it home! Take inspiration from places you've visited or wish you'd been able to visit in 2020. Frame those vacation photos from a few years ago or find some artwork that reminds you of a place that you miss.
4. Embrace Organization
No, you don't have to do the full Marie Kondo to be organized. Keeping your home organized can give you peace of mind and keep your space cleaner for longer. The key to organization is to simply create a system for things and do your best to stick with it! Start with containers. That junk drawer? Easily fixed with a drawer organizer. The catchall closet? A few plastic bins and a broom rack is all you need.
5. Comfort Over Everything Else
All this is to say, make your home comfortable for you. We are all still spending lots of time at home in 2021. Choose things you love that give you a sense of comfort. If that means white and faux fur to you, great! If a navy blue accent wall makes you happy, do it! It's been a crazy year and, at the end of the day, your home should make you happy!
